2. Opening Session

The meeting began at 09:30 AM with a song and a prayer led by the Sparrow interns, setting a positive and unifying tone.

Mr. Puluko Nkiwane opened the proceedings by welcoming everyone and appreciating Sparrow College management for their collaboration and support towards youth skills development.

He emphasized Neftaly’s ongoing commitment to creating practical work opportunities for students and graduates to bridge the gap between education and the labour market.


3. Purpose of the Visit

The main objectives of the Neftaly delegation’s visit were to:

  1. Conduct an orientation and work experience induction for Sparrow College interns.
  2. Explain the roles, responsibilities, and expectations of each intern during their placement at Neftaly.
  3. Introduce the Neftaly Royal Office structure and provide clarity on Royal functions.
  4. Allocate interns to specific Royal for focused, hands-on learning.
  5. Provide access to Neftaly’s online systems, communication platforms, and workflow tools.
  6. Strengthen the partnership between Neftaly and Sparrow College under the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) framework.

4. Overview of Neftaly Organizational Structure

Mr. Nkiwane gave an overview of Neftaly as a Youth Development Institution that empowers young people, women, and persons with disabilities by providing training, mentorship, and employment pathways.

He explained the seven (7) Neftaly Royal Offices, each serving a unique strategic purpose:

6. Orientation and Onboarding Process

The Neftaly leadership provided a structured onboarding and skills transfer session covering:

  • Introduction to Neftaly’s communication tools (Teams, Email, WhatsApp, and task management systems).
  • Reporting procedures, hierarchy, and supervision expectations.
  • Daily deliverables and Royal check-in meetings.
  • Calendar of events and project timelines.
  • Overview of Neftaly’s Work Experience Framework aligned with SETA requirements.

Each intern received Royal access and was guided through their upcoming work schedule, emphasizing professional behavior, punctuality, and accountability.


7. Feedback and Reactions

  • The interns expressed gratitude and excitement to be officially placed under Neftaly’s mentorship.
  • Many interns highlighted that they had been waiting for a structured platform to apply their classroom knowledge in real work settings.
  • The leadership team observed that the interns were enthusiastic, disciplined, and ready to learn.
  • Those who attended virtually faced connectivity issues, and it was agreed that physical attendees would brief and support their peers afterward.

8. Key Observations

  • The engagement created a strong sense of motivation and belonging among interns.
  • Neftaly’s multidisciplinary approach impressed Sparrow College representatives, who appreciated the clear structure and mentorship model.
  • There is potential for a long-term partnership agreement between Neftaly and Sparrow College focusing on training, internships, and future employability pathways.
  • A need was identified to develop a digital training handbook for remote interns to ensure uniformity in learning outcomes.

9. Challenges Identified

  1. Limited internet connectivity for virtual participants.
  2. Some interns lacked basic digital tools (e.g., laptops or data), which may affect participation in remote tasks.
  3. Need for consistent communication channels between Neftaly supervisors and Sparrow College coordinators.

10. Recommendations

  1. Neftaly to provide short orientation refresher sessions online for those who missed the in-person visit.
  2. Sparrow College to assist in ensuring all interns have adequate digital access to participate remotely.
  3. Monthly progress and mentorship check-ins to be scheduled between Neftaly Royal and Sparrow coordinators.
  4. Development of a standardized internship assessment form to track student performance and skills growth.
  5. Neftaly to continue strengthening collaboration through joint programs and future site visits.

  • Interns to begin their official Neftaly assignments the following week.
  • Royal heads to provide detailed workplans and mentorship guidance.

  • Monitoring Office to track and compile daily work experience reports for Sparrow compliance.

12. Closing Remarks

In his closing address, Mr. Puluko Nkiwane thanked Sparrow College for their ongoing partnership and assured the interns that Neftaly would provide full guidance and mentorship throughout their work experience period.

He encouraged interns to maintain professionalism, respect organizational culture, and view this placement as a stepping stone to career success.
